Shortly after the attack, a group of woman spoke to the victim. Investigating officer, PC Sylvia Matla said: “I am appealing to the group of women to come forward along with any witnesses who saw what happened or can help us identify the suspect. Definition Body Coaching in York celebrates 10 years of support

Definition Body Coaching in Nether Poppleton is celebrating going into its 10th year in business this month - and the team said they are proud to be a personal training studio lead by three trainers with over 45 years fitness industry experience combined. Founder of the business, Justin Shepherd, who himself has just achieved 20 years working in the industry, said: "I wanted to make a studio in York where we could provide great education, atmosphere and service to provide our clients with a unique experience. The Definition Body Coaching team in action (Image: UGC) "Recommending exercise is not something new to most people but enjoying it really can be the igniter. Our experience has helped us tweak it each year to keep trying to improve especially from feedback off the customers." Trainer Carl Ward joined Justin in 2014 after leaving the Parachute regiment, where he served for seven years including an operation in Afghanistan.  Carl knew that fitness was his career path after returning to civilian life. He said: "As a PTI in the paras, leading by example is paramount and I believe a great coach is one which walks the walk, proving they've done on themselves what they are asking from others. It is a job I thrive in." Definition Body Coaching has welcomed hundreds of York residents through the doors to exercise over the years and that have resulted in countless body transformations. Former professional rugby player in York, Jimmy Morrow, successfully lost over four stone in the last year - losing more than 11 inches off his waist in the process. The coaches helped Jimmy to work on new lifestyle, exercise and eating habits - which led to him losing the weight. On working with the team at Definition Body Coaching, Jimmy said: "The support, community feel, and accountability is what has helped my success. We all need someone to bounce ideas off and help us to progress. "I now have my self-confidence returning, anxiety reducing at social occasions, sleeping better and feel more myself again." Jimmy Morrow before and after the weight loss (Image: UGC) Jimmy played for York Wasps and the Knights Academy, Scotland, Great Britain and Sheffield Eagles during a 10-year career. Mike Gray joined the Definition team in 2019, bringing in a wealth of experience in the fitness industry at gyms in York. Mike said: "My passion has always been about helping people find balance in their exercise and nutrition. "Too many coaches insist on people exercising seven days a week and living off nothing but salad. "I consider my job completed when people learn to be able to balance eating well and exercising with enjoying meals out with family and friends and enjoying their exercise."

Matt Hancock ‘rejected’ advice on care home Covid testing

The allegations are based on more than 100,000 leaked WhatsApp messages obtained by the Daily Telegraph giving an insight into the way the government operated at the height of the Covid-19 crisis. Mr Hancock is battling these claims and vehemently denies overruling clinical advice. A spokesman for Mr Hancock said: “These stolen messages have been doctored to create a false story that Matt rejected clinical advice on care home testing. This is flat wrong.” Matt Hancock's messages with Sir Chris Witty were leaked (Image: PA) What did the WhatsApp messages concern? The Telegraph’s investigation said that England’s chief medical officer Professor Sir Chris Whitty told the then-health secretary in April 2020 there should be testing for “all going into care homes”. Mr Hancock described it as “obviously a good positive step” in the messages. But the exchanges, from April 14, 2020, suggest Mr Hancock ultimately rejected the guidance, telling an aide the move just “muddies the waters”, and introduced mandatory testing only for those coming from hospitals rather than the community. The messages were provided to the Telegraph by journalist Isabel Oakeshott, who was handed them by Mr Hancock while she worked on his Pandemic Diaries memoir. Ms Oakeshott, who has described lockdowns as an “unmitigated disaster”, said she was releasing the messages because it would take “many years” before the end of the official Covid inquiry, which she claimed could be a “colossal whitewash”. The WhatsApp messages were leaked by journalist Isabel Oakeshott who had been handed them by Matt Hancock while she worked in his memoir (Image: PA) “That’s why I’ve decided to release this sensational cache of private communications – because we absolutely cannot wait any longer for answers,” she said. What did Matt Hancock's spokesman say on the matter? Matt Hancock's spokesman said that the former health secretary “enthusiastically accepted” the advice from Sir Chris on April 14. It was clarified that “later that day he convened an operational meeting on delivering testing for care homes where he was advised it was not currently possible to test everyone entering care homes, which he also accepted”. The spokesman added: “Matt concluded that the testing of people leaving hospital for care homes should be prioritised because of the higher risks of transmission, as it wasn’t possible to mandate everyone going into care homes got tested.” Declining to comment directly on the leaks, a Government spokesman said: “We have always said there are lessons to be learnt from the pandemic. “We are committed to learning from the Covid inquiry’s findings, which will play a key role in informing the Government’s planning and preparations for the future.” What was said at PMQs about the incident? The issue of the leaked WhatsApp messages was brought up during Prime Minister's Questions today (Wednesday, March 1). Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said: "Families across the country will look at this, and the sight of politicians writing books portraying themselves as heroes, or selectively leaking messages, will be an insulting and ghoulish spectacle for them. Keir Starmer speaking at the PMQs session (Image: House of Commons/PA) “At the heart of this is every family who made enormous sacrifices for the good of the country, or who tragically lost loved ones. “The country deserves better." Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took a different route, backing an official Covid inquiry as the “right way” to scrutinise the handling of the pandemic. He said: "The last couple of years were incredibly difficult for everyone involved in the health service. “Rather than comment on piecemeal bits of information […] the right way for this to be looked at is the Covid inquiry. “He will know […] that there is a proper process to these things. “What we should all do in this House is let them get on and do their job.”

Lewis Smith threatened to cut York couple with two kitchen knives

Lewis Kelvin Smith, 20, took two “wicked looking” kitchen knives to the home of a man who regarded him as a brother, York Crown Court heard. Jade Bucklow, prosecuting, said he made allegations about the man, pointed a knife at him and threatened to kill him. When the man’s partner also came to the door he said: “I will cut you, I will cut you” and “I have two knives, I have a knife, I have a knife, look I have two.” He was holding a knife very close to her. The man later told police: “He was off his head and could have done anything.” The woman told police she feared for both their safety and that Smith would actually kill her partner. Smith, of no fixed address and New Earswick, pleaded guilty to threatening the couple with a weapon and carrying a knife in public, both on August 28, two charges of shop theft and one of failure to attend court. All the offences were committed when he was on a community order and the shop thefts were committed when he was on bail for the knife offences. Judge Simon Hickey told Smith: “Taking a knife or two knives, as wicked looking at these were, could have resulted in life changing events both for you and the victims. Fortunately, they didn’t.” He jailed Smith for 11 months and two weeks. For Smith, Esther Bukoye said the knife offences had been out of character. He now recognised that he shouldn’t have done them and was remorseful. The incident had lasted no more than two minutes. Ms Bucklow said the man had known Smith for many years and regarded him as a brother. He had managed to push Smith out of the property and shut the door on him. After Smith was released on bail for the knife offences, he had stolen alcohol worth £162 from a Co-op store in Fulford on January 22 and alcohol and a sandwich from a Co-op store on Hull Road, York, on February 8, the day after he failed to attend York Magistrates' Court on February 7. He had 26 previous convictions for theft, all committed since 2018. The judge said the thefts were “blatant” and that Smith targeted Co-op stores. Ms Bukoye said Smith had “gone off the rails” when his mother had died and been unable to cope with his emotions. He had been battling with depression and living a “reckless lifestyle”. “He didn’t have the same support system he now has today,” she said. “His family are present in court.”

Persimmon slows housebuilding rate as market conditions bite

Persimmon said that it would build and sell between 8,000 and 9,000 homes in 2023, down from close to 15,000 the year before, which was an all-time high for the business. The company’s decision comes in a changing market where house prices are starting to fall as potential buyers are dealing with the soaring cost of living and spiking interest rates which make it more expensive for them to borrow money. New figures from Nationwide on Wednesday suggested that house prices dropped by their fastest annual rate since 2012 in the year to February. This year will be “difficult”, Persimmon said, as it announced the plans. The rate at which it sold a home slowed to a trickle in the last three months of 2022, but has recovered somewhat since the new year began. Chief executive Dean Finch said: “The market remains uncertain. Our marketing campaign has helped improve the group’s sales rates in the new year from the lows at the end of 2022, but they still remain lower year on year. “We have carefully managed our pricing, recognising the improved value and energy efficiency of our product in these difficult times and sales prices have proved resilient.” He added: “The sales rates seen over the last five months mean completions will be down markedly this year and as a consequence, so will margin and profits.” The business said that it would prepare for growth “when market conditions permit”. By next year it hopes to start expanding again. Whether that is compared with last year’s results or this year’s lower bar was unclear. The business announced that it had seen a big drop in pre-tax profit last year as it set aside another £275 million to deal with the cost to make building safe in the wake of the Grenfell disaster. Profit hit £731 million in 2022, down from £967 million the year before. Revenue rose from £3.6 billion to £3.8 billion. The company sold 14,868 homes, around 300 more than in 2021, at a price of £248,616 on average, up around 4.9 per cent.
