The 44th chapter of LINK and Kotaro Shono‘s Shūmatsu no Harem: After World manga revealed on Sunday that the manga will end in three chapters. As the manga usually serializes a new chapter once every other Sunday, the manga will end on May 7 if there are no delays.

The manga entered its final arc in December 2022.

The manga ended its first part with the 85th chapter in June 2020, and went on hiatus. The manga resumed in May 2021, and launched its second part on the Shonen Jump+ website with a new title: Shūmatsu no Harem: After World.

Seven SeasGhost Ship imprint is publishing the original manga in English under the title World’s End Harem, and it describes the story:

The Man-Killer Virus: a lethal disease that has eradicated 99.9% of the world’s male population. Mizuhara Reito has been in cryogenic sleep for the past five years, leaving behind Tachibana Erisa, the girl of his dreams. When Reito awakens from the deep freeze, he emerges into a sex-crazed new world where he himself is the planet’s most precious resource. Reito and four other male studs are given lives of luxury and one simple mission: repopulate the world by impregnating as many women as possible! All Reito wants, however, is to find his beloved Erisa who went missing three years ago. Can Reito resist temptation and find his one true love?

The manga launched in May 2016 on the Shonen Jump+ website and app. Shueisha published the manga’s 16th compiled book volume in September 2022. Seven SeasGhost Ship imprint will publish the manga’s 13th volume in English in December 2022.

The manga franchise has more than 8.5 million copies in print.

The manga inspired a television anime adaptation, which premiered in October 2021.

LINK and SAVAN debuted a fantasy-setting spinoff titled World’s End Harem: Fantasia in 2018. The manga runs in Shueisha‘s Ultra Jump magazine, and on the Shonen Jump+ service and Young Jump! app. Seven SeasGhost Ship imprint is also releasing that manga in English.

Okada Andō launched a spinoff of World’s End Harem: Fantasia titled Shūmatsu no Harem: Fanatasia Gakuen (World’s End Harem: Fantasia Academy) in Ultra Jump in May 2020, and ended the series on July 17. Kira Etō launched the third spinoff manga, World’s End Harem ~Britannia Lumiére~ (Shūmatsu no Harem: Britannia Lumiere), on Shonen Jump+ in June 2020, and the manga ended in August 2021. Shueisha‘s MANGA Plus website published that manga in English.

KanColle Developer Wins Defamation Lawsuit

The Tokyo District Court awarded 4.40 million yen (about US$33,600) in damages to C2 Präparat Co., Ltd., the creator and developer of the KanColle (Kantai Collection) game, on January 26. The decision was for a lawsuit against an individual who defamed the franchise and C2 head Kensuke Tanaka by selling defamatory merchandise and impersonating Tanaka’s likeness.

The individual participated in an event for creators to publish dōjin (self-published) derivative works for KanColle in August 2020, where he wore a mask that impersonated Tanaka, and sold sex toys that portrayed characters from the franchise. The Tokyo District Court’s judgement also prohibited further manufacture and distribution of the mask containing Tanaka’s likeness, as well as the destruction of all files and materials used in the making of the mask. The official Twitter account for C2 first mentioned possible legal action against the individual in a tweet after the event in August 2020.

C2 co-developed the original KanColle web browser game with Kadokawa Games, and debuted it on the DMM service in 2013. The game is set in a world where humanity has lost control of the seas. The threat that has taken over the seas is the Abyssal fleet. The only ones who can counter this threat are Kan-Musu (Fleet Girls), girls who possess the spirit of naval vessels from days gone by. The game and its characters have enjoyed massive popularity, spawning many games inspired by it. The franchise was at one point the most popular franchise for dōjin circles in Comiket, and as of the latest Comiket, is still the fifth most popular franchise.

The first 12-episode TV anime series premiered in January 2015 and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Funimation released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc with English subtitles and an English dub in June 2017. The Kantai Collection -KanColle- film opened in Japan in November 2016, and earned 560 million yen (about US$5 million) by March 2017.

KanColle: Itsuka Ano Umi de (Kan Colle Season 2: Let’s Meet at Sea), the second season of the KanColle anime, premiered in Japan in November 2022, and aired its finale on Saturday. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

What the Judges Are Looking for in the TATESC Comics Global Awards Contest

Animenewsnetwork - All articles

So, you want to win the 1st TATESC Comics Global Awards and get not only the sizable cash prize but have your own manga professionally published as well? Well then, it would certainly help to know what exactly the contest’s judges are looking for. So here’s what one of the English language judges had to say on the subject.

What genres of manga are you looking for?
Any genre will be welcome! Of course popular genres like fantasy, romance, and comedy are all accepted—as well as more niche genres.

Should a submission to be a twist on a common genre or should it be something radically different from the norm?
It’s still important that a work appeal to readers of TATESC comics, so something completely different from what people are used to might have issues attracting an audience—but feel free to be unique.

Are you looking for widespread appeal or something more niche and nuanced?
We will be judging each work based on how well it could appeal to the audience it is addressing. So whether widespread or tightly focused, what matters is if it matches its audience or not.

Should the submission be a complete story?
Not necessarily. It can definitely be a build up to something much bigger.

Should the submission end on a cliffhanger?
Please use your judgment on whether ending your submission in that way would be the most effective way of telling your story.

Is it a good idea to read past winners’ manga before submitting my entry?
Past winners, but also other popular vertical scrolling comics or ones in genres you enjoy, can give you ideas for how to start—but please don’t just copy other people’s work. Make sure to make something of your own!

Which is more important, art or story?
That depends on the work! If you feel your strength lies in one or the other, make sure you show off the aspect where you shine the most.

Is it okay for a submission to be in black and white? Or should it be fully colored?
Please use color in your submissions. How complex your coloring is is up to you, but TATESC comics are generally in color and not black and white.

How important is creatively incorporating the vertical scrolling format?
This is definitely a factor when evaluating the entries. Effective use of the medium is important.

What advice do you have on making a successful submission?
Don’t miss the submission deadline!

So there you have it. For all the 1st TATESC Comics Global Awards rules, prizes, and how to submit your vertically scrolling manga, be sure to check out the official contest page. Good luck!

How 3 Sailor Moon Fangirls’ Dreams of Voicing in the Anime Came True

Animenewsnetwork - All articles

Among the many women who grew up loving Sailor Moon, three of them had their dream come true: starring alongside Kotono Mitsuishi (Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon) in the upcoming Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie as the Sailor Starlights.

AnimeJapan is always full of surprises for the fans and guests alike. For the people who grew up with Sailor Moon, they got to live vicariously through Marina Inoue (Kou Seiya), Saori Hayami (Kou Taiki), and Ayane Sakura (Kou Yaten) as they spoke of the dreamlike state they were in after portraying the Sailor Starlights in the upcoming movie. It was as if we were seeing the five-year-old girls pop out of them.

sailor2
Via press kit

Inoue began the slip into her childhood by reminiscing about how she would play Sailor Moon. Hayami concurred with her adding she had some of the toys as well. Sakura, though, mentioned she wasn’t much of a Sailor Moon child, but her sisters were. Thus, through osmosis and watching the series as an adult, she came to understand why people connected with the series. As the three women’s idol, Mitsuishi listened intently.

sailor3

The three womens’ fond childhood memories turned a bit bitter as they spoke of their experiences auditioning for the revival series Sailor Moon Crystal. Inoue spoke of how she auditioned three different times and was unfortunately not selected. She even thought she would accept her fate of never being in Sailor Moon until she was asked to audition for the upcoming movies. Upon being selected for the role of Seiya she was so ecstatic her dream came true—almost still not believing it.

sailor4

Hayami and Sakura had similar experiences, but Hayami spoke of how the memory of receiving the part of Taiki would be one she’d never forget. An understandable sentiment as there’s no doubt any person would feel the same way. Sakura added how she’s happy that her life and the Sailor Moon franchise have crossed paths the way they have.

Listening to the women gush at the AnimeJapan 2023 stage event in front of their childhood hero awakened this male reporter’s inner five-year-old girl. While jealous of Inoue, Hayami, and Sakura, I couldn’t help but feel happy for the women. And now they will forever be enshrined in the pantheon of Sailor Moon.

Win Kadokawa’s TATESC Contest and Get Your Own Manga Published!

Animenewsnetwork - All articles

Think you have it in you to make your own hit manga? Then the TATESC Comics Global Awards contest might just be for you.

TATESC is a Kadokawa-owned manga label that focuses on vertically scrolling manga—i.e., manga that are designed to be read on a phone, tablet, or computer where each chapter is a single giant image that you read by scrolling rather than turning pages. Over the past few years, TATESC has held the TATESC Comics Awards contest, asking amateur manga and comic creators to submit their best vertically scrolling manga. Winners have received prize money, editorial feedback, and even electronic publication of their winning manga chapters.

While past iterations of the contest have been confined to the Japanese language, the newest, The TATESC Comics Global Awards, is going worldwide and is accepting entries in Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Malay, and Thai. The top three entries in each language will receive cash prizes ($15,000 for first, $2,500 for second, and $1,000 for third) in addition to being published. Moreover, the three winners of the special “Translation and Publication Award in Japan” category will have their works published in Japanese alongside a separate monetary prize ($15,000 for first, $2,500 for second, and $1,000 for third).

To enter you must submit at least one completed chapter of a serialized, vertically scrolling work. (The entire work doesn’t need to be fully completed at the time of submission, however.) Each chapter should have a width of 760 pixels and a height of at least 20,000 pixels. You can submit your manga between now and August 31, 2023, at 11:59 PM (JST) via the official contest page. Finalists will be announced in October 2023 and the winner in November 2023.

Of course, as with all contests, there is a ton of fine print ranging from the specific rules of entry to how the rights of your manga will be handled after publication. For all that and more, check out the official contest page. Good luck!
