The University of Chester’s Centre for Foundation Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Mathematics to join this teaching department. The Centre is in its sixth year of teaching foundation years and is expanding due to the demand for extended degrees that include a foundation year.
The Centre offers foundation years for a large proportion of the University’s undergraduate provision and focuses on developing students’ subject knowledge, introducing undergraduate academic skills, and supporting students in their transition to a higher education environment. We also offer one-year International Foundation Programmes that prepare international students for undergraduate degrees at the University of Chester.
The position requires knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment methodologies which are designed to develop students’ engagement with academia, as well as introducing approaches to enquiry and self-study. We are seeking a lecturer who is innovative in their delivery of Mathematics, and who could contribute to a second subject e.g. Computing, Physics. The post holder will join a creative team of academics, and will be able to inspire students with innovative teaching methods and authentic assessments.
All lecturers at the Centre are also required to contribute to our academic skills and student project development areas.
You will have a commitment to high standards of teaching and student support as well as excellent administrative skills, which are required to successfully manage the recording and monitoring of student performance and to implement appropriate support systems for students. You will be a lecturer that enjoys working collaboratively within a teaching team where student success is a key focus. High-level communication skills and social and cultural awareness are also significant attributes required for this role.
Experience of teaching curriculum in an environment of quality assurance and enhancement is essential and you will be expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of our programmes and of the service we offer to our students.
